Have you ever heard about a group run, or have done one? Well, WHES had done one during the 2019-2019 school year. Hopefully you got to do it. It’s not just your average run, it’s a color run. You would get colored powder all over yourself.

    The Details

The color run is a fundraiser  for the 6th grade field trip. The run/walk is down Academy Drive, and it’s one mile long. About every block or so the volunteers throw color packets at you, so by the end you are a walking rainbow. The run itself starts a 9:00 am, but the runners and volunteers had to be there at 8:15 am. It was on Saturday, September 28th.

    Who Came up With it?

The person / group that came up with doing this run and the Home & School Association. They came up with the idea to do it for a 6th grade fundraise, for the class trip.  The Home & School Association come up with most of the activities/fundraisers for the school. This is only one of the many fundraisers that the Home & School Association came up with. It was crazy to think that over 200 people came to come support the 6th graders.

    From my Perspective

For this color run I had to wake up at 6:30am, so that we could get there by 7:00am to help setup. Luckily, some of my friends were there too so I wasn’t by myself. We had to set up all of the “Color Stations”, which took a little while because there were 5 color stations. The parents had to fill up all of the color bottles to get sprayed at us. But at about 8:00, all of the kids that were there went to the gaga pit to play a couple games. Once we came back it started to get busy. I was helping my mom pass out the shirts. Not long after the run started.

    The Run

Everyone that was doing the run had a mini bag of pigment that we would put in our hands, and throw it up into the air when the run started. Mr.Pitzo was counting down when the run started. When he said one all of the pigment went soaring into the air, and the run started. Some people were running, jogging, or walking. Up came the first color station. BOOM! In the chest was some yellow pigment all over your chest.

Everyone was coated by the half-way point. By the end everyone looked like a walking rainbow. We all lined up and took a group photo. After everyone went to the refresher stand, and got either water, fruit, or they went to the Kona Ice truck. The run was over.
