What’s your definition of art?

Art is a very popular thing and many people like it. But, there are plenty different types of art. Art can be make-up, fashion, drawing, sculpting, singing, acting, dancing, painting, and many other things. Art to many people is beautiful, and anything can be art, ugly, or beautiful. It is inspirational to many people. It helps people release creativity and express their feelings. We decided to ask 6th graders what their definition of art is to see how it makes them feel.

Real definition: “The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.”

Student 1: Creative things.

Student 2: Expressing yourself.

Student 3: Art is how you write and express your feelings.

Student 4: Somebody’s work or design.

Student 5: Beautiful, and made by someone who’s talented.

After hearing their thoughts on art, it seems like the 5 students are sort of all on the same page. To them, art is about expressing yourself and being creative, talent is also important. They have the right idea of the true definition.
