What is Improv?

Improv, short for improvisation, is a theater term. Improv is when  you come up with scenes and you can make up games as well. You have to act them out and become the character. Improv is also when you forget your lines then have to make up new ones that that fit the scene, without any prior practice.  People use improve in plays to help cover up any mistakes, making the play more interesting.

Now, here is how you improv at home (but you might need someone else to be the other characters):

Step 1. You need to warm up.

Step 2. So what you do now is you need to Read the article/script.

Step 3. After that you will need to study your character (become your character and know who your character is.)

Step 4. Now, since you have become your character you need to memorize your character’s lines.

Step 5. Then, you need to go somewhere (where other people can see you) and become your character again and say your lines (without your script) and do exactly what you are going to do on show night.

Step 6. After you have done these steps, you have to film yourself and see what you look like.

Step 7. Finally, you need to watch the video and find your mistakes and do the process over again.

If you keep doing these steps everyday, you won’t feel as nervous and you’ll be more confident.  You will be ready for your show!
