When people learn about the magical world of Harry Potter, people wish they were a witch or wizard. A lot of people take tests to determine what Hogwarts house they would be sorted into, what their patronus is, and what type of wand they have. Some people buy wands and other Harry Potter merchandise, but they can get expensive. If you are a Harry Potter fan but you don’t want to spend money on merchandise, we have some DIY’s you might like!

Wands

To use spells as a witch or wizard, you need your wand. Your wand is a perfect fit for you. Here is a way to make customized wands.

Supplies:

Skewers or Chopsticks

Hot glue and glue gun (ADULT SUPERVISION RECOMMENDED)

Paint

Directions:

  1. Warm your hot glue gun.
  2. Use the hot glue to make designs near the bottom of the skewer/chopstick. (This will be the wand’s handle)
  3. Let the hot glue harden.
  4. Paint the wand colors of your choice.
  5. Let paint dry.

Now you can have your very own customized wand!

Butterbeer

Butterbeer is a well known drink from Harry Potter. This sweet drink will taste just as good as you would expect at the Leaky Cauldron.

Ingredients:

32 oz. Cream Soda

1 quart Vanilla Ice cream

¼ cup Butterscotch Syrup

Directions:

  1. Pour the cream soda in a large bowl or pitcher.
  2. Mix cream soda and ice cream together until smooth (you can handmix or use a blender)
  3. Add in butterscotch syrup and mix.
  4. Pour into cups and enjoy!

House-Colored Slime

When you go to Hogwarts, you get sorted into one of four houses: Slytherin, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or Gryffindor. Each house has their main colors, Gryffindor’s colors are red and gold, Slytherin’s are green and silver, Hufflepuff’s are yellow and black, and Ravenclaw’s are blue and bronze. Show your house spirit by making your house colored slime!

Supplies:

Elmer’s School Glue or Elmer’s Glue All

Activator (borax and water, Sta-Flo, Tide, or contact solution and baking soda

Coloring (paint or food coloring)

Optional:

Model Magic or Diaso Clay

Glitter

Scent of your choice

Directions:

  1. Pour the glue into a bowl.
  2. Add the coloring of your house.
  3. Add the activator little by little until the slime is no longer super sticky and is stretchy.
  4. OPTIONAL: Knead the clay in your hands and then put it in your slime. Add glitter and/or scent.

Now you have cheap and easy Harry Potter DIY’s!
