Charles “CJ” Nana Kwabena Sapong was born on December 27th, 1988 in Manassas, VA. He plays as a forward  for the Philadelphia Union in MLS (Major League Soccer) where he is one of the top five best players! As a forward, he is part of the front line of attack. He is also expected to score goals and be able to dribble the ball up to the goal and score.

As a fan favorite, his replica jersey is one of the best selling on MLSstore.com. He attended James Madison University from 2007-2010, where he won many awards such as Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year, Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Year in 2009,  Virginia Sports Information Directors Rookie of the Year, and many more.

On January 14th, 2011, CJ Sapong was drafted 10th#10 overall by Sporting Kansas City (Sporting KC). He made his professional debut on March 19, 2011 in Kansas City’s opening game.  He scored 20 goals while playing for Sporting KC.

On December 8th, 2014, the Philadelphia Union acquired CJ Sapong from Sporting KC trading the highest overall selection in the 2015 MLS Superdraft. In 2015, CJ Sapong played 27 games, started in 20 games, and scored 9 goals. Sapong led the Union in goals in the 2015 season (scoring 9 goals.)

CJ Sapong still plays for the Philadelphia Union. He is one of the most important players on the team, according to many people. As of May 10th, he has started in all 9 games and scored 2 goals in the 2018 season, and we can definitely see more coming!
