Child obesity is when children are fatter than normal.

Child obesity is getting worse. According to Healthier America “Approximately 17 percent of US youth, have obesity problems. One in three children are obese or are struggling with being overweight.” Too much of the food American children eat is “junk” food. Another reason for chubby children is that they do not get enough physical activity.

Kids in 2018 do not eat as many fruits and vegetables as they used to. Sarah Witten is a reporter for CNBC news. When Sarah Witten met with some of the McDonald’s  franchises they said that “We are being buoyed up by McDonald’s $1 $2 $3 dollar menu.” This means that more customers are coming to McDonald’s due to their $1 $2 $3 dollar menu. When we eat too much “fast food” we become obese.

Most elementary schools give kids recess, which is helpful, but as the children get older, they spend too much time on electronics. According to most doctors, children should only spend up to two hours on electronics per day. One good way to limit electronic time is to use it as an award when they do a good task.

An interview conducted at Woodbury Heights Elementary School showed that these students eat meals from fast food restaurants an average of three times each month. Additionally, they spend an average of three hours each day on electronics. Both of these averages fall above doctor-recommended guidelines for healthy children.

So, are you using a fair amount of electronic time? Are you eating healthy? Are you getting enough physical activity? If not, try to work on it. If you eat healthily, get good physical activity, and use a fair amount of electronics you have a better chance of maintaining a good weight.

This is a very nice written article. I think McDonalds is going crazy with a 1$ 2$ 3$ menu. Are they trying to make everyone over weight?

Interesting article. I am glad you interviewed some students so you could write an article that is relevant to them. (I have to admit, I enjoyed a Shamrock Shake from McDonald’s this year!)
