For many years, anyone walking the halls of Woodbury Heights Elementary School would see Mrs. Barton leading her class. Mrs.Barton is one of WHES’ favorite teachers. She has taught since 1972, having taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. She then became a kindergarten teacher.

Here at the Heights Herald, we had the opportunity of learning the first scoop on Mrs. Barton’s retirement. The first question that had to be asked was what she was going to do with her hard-earned free time. She explained that she was excited to travel. She’s going to take more trips to San Diego, California to see her son.  She also explained how she was going to visit the beach and clean the house..

Unfortunately, retirement always comes with a bit of remorse. Mrs. Barton said she was going to miss the kids and the kids showing off their talents at lunch. She is going to miss doing the Kindergarten Cares food drive, which she’s been running for eight years. She is also going to miss singing and dancing with the kindergarten students during the Winter Concert. In addition to all of this, she will miss her teacher friends and the students of WHES as well as Mrs. Fletcher’s chocolate chip cookies.

She truly loves her Woodbury Heights Elementary School family. So much so, that the only thing she said she will not miss is counting backwards in the lunchroom.

Mrs.Barton is a great teacher and role-model. She has brought many fun activities and great ideas to WHES and she will be truly missed by all of us at WHES.
